SOIL TYPE
Aerobic rice can be successfully raised in all type of soils and with good water management practices.

METHOD OF CULTIVATION
Land is ploughed after the harvest of the previous crop preferably ensuring deep tillage and fine tilth to enable enhanced root growth and higher moisture in soil. interculture and weeding in the first six weeks is important for good crop growth stand. Top-dressing with nitrogen and micronutrients is necessary if deficiency symptoms appear at vegetat

DRRH-2

Cultivation package for DRR-2 Hybrid

INTRODUCTIONDirectorate of Rice Research (DRR)  has  developed  and  released a second hybrid viz., DRRH-2. This is an early maturing hybrid (115-117 days). This hybrid has been released for the states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttaranchal and Haryana, by the Central Variety Release Committee. This is an early maturing, high yielding hybrid with long slender grains of acceptable cooking quality and with resistance to blast and rice tungro virus.

Salient features of DRRH-2 Hybrid

Appropriate agronomical management is necessary for obtaining the potential yield of the hybrid. Management practices differ from location to location and from season to season depending on local conditions. As the cost of hybrid seed is comparatively higher, it is very important to use the seed economically by following specialized nursery management and planting practices.  PLANTING SEASON Sowing of hybrid seed should be adjusted in such a way that the crop is not exposed to extremely high or low temperatures particularly at panicle initiation and flowering stages.

INPUTS REQUIREDSeed rate recommended for this hybrid is 15 kg/ha as compared to 40-50 kg/ha for the inbred varieties generally followed by farmers. Balanced use of organic and inorganic fertilizers is also very important to realize higher yields.

*Fertilizer recommendations may vary slightly depending on location. Need based application of zinc and iron is also recommended for higher yields As the cost of hybrid seed is higher, proper nursery management is very important to economize the cost for seed material, which is to be purchased afresh every season. Hence sparse sowing of hybrid seed at the rate of 20-30 gm/m2 is recommended to obtain strong, healthy and multi-tillered seedlings in 20-25 days for planting. Prepare wet beds of 1 meter width and of convenie
