Question : Sources of nitrogenous fertilisers? What is the best and economic source?
Answer :

Nitrogen can be used in the form of Urea, Ammonniam sulphate, ammonniam chloride. Among all urea is the cheap source, hence better to for urea.

Question : How to use the nitrogenous fertilizers more efficiently?
Answer :

Always use the nitrogenous fertilizers based on soil test. For higher yields, apply 25-50% of recommended fertilizers in the form of organic and green manures. Apply recommended dose in 3-4 splits. At the time of planting, second time at 25days for long duration varieties, 20days for medium duration varieties and 15days for short duration varieties. Third time at the time of panicle initiation. In light soils entire quantity may be split in to 4 equal parts and apply.

 

Question : What is sulphide injury? How to overcome?
Answer :

Under waterstagnated illdrained conditions, soil sulphur changes from sulphate (So4¬) to sulphide (S-) . Due to this, rottening of root system, blackening of soil near root system and also root will takes place and gives rotten egg smell. To overcome the problem, drain the water and dry the soil till air cracks appear. Do not add any organic matter to such soils and do not apply any fertilizer containing sulpher.

Question : What are the remedial measures for chlorosis (iron deficiency) and khaira (zinc deficiency) disease of rice?
Answer :

Spray the crop with 1 kg ferrous sulphate (Hara kashis) and 5 kg urea in 200 litre of water per acre for chlorosis. For khaira disease spray 1 kg zinc sulphate and 5 kg urea in 200 litre of water per acre. Repeat the spray after 7-10 days, if needed.

Question : Can Basmati rice be cultivated without the use of inorganic fertilizers?
Answer :

Yes, the organic farming of Basmati rice varieties Taraori Basmati and CSR 30 can be done with only with green manuring of dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata)

Question : Does the zinc deficiency symptom (khaira disease) appear even after the application of recommended dose of zinc sulphate?
Answer :

Yes, zinc deficiency symptoms do appear sometimes.

Question : How much N fertilizer is required in paddy if green manuring with dhaincha is done before transplanting?
Answer :

2/3rd of the recommended fertilizer dose.

Question : How many days after transplanting fertilizers can be applied as a basal dose?
Answer :

Within a week.

Question : What is the optimum time of application of N, P and K fertilizers in rice?
Answer :

Full dose of P & K and 1/3 dose of N fertilizer should be applied at the time of pudlling while remaining 2/3 dose of N should be applied in two splits at 21 and 42 days after transplanting.

 

Question : What are the suitable sources of N, P, K and Zn in rice?
Answer :

Ammonium sulphate/Ammonium chloride/Urea for nitrogen, DAP/single super phosphate/triple super phosphate for phosphorus, muriate of potash for K and zinc sulphate for Zn.
